Everyone wants to win?
I am sitting and
watching netball matches at my kids school and learning so much about life. As
a success coach I have learnt that there is a lesson in everything. The energy
and the passion to score and win is amazing in the hearts of human beings. We
are all born with a desire to win in life but all to often our environment or
surrounding circumstances push our that passion for life and replaces it with a
sad sense of indifference. To be alive is to have a desire to win, to succeed
to achieve a worthwhile goal that leaves one with a contended fulfilment.
What is intriguing for
me in all this is watching the parents that seem to want to win more than the
children. It seems they are trying to get back at the loses they experienced in
their earlier days. So to see their child succeed causes them to feel more fulfilled.
Winning brings energy to life it gives one motivation to look forward to
another day. We all want to win whether we are open about this or not, I look
and see grown men loose sleep over their favourite soccer team or rugby team. It
makes me wonder why they are so keen to see the win as if they bet their life
on the team, I suppose some go that far.
1.
Have a desire to win. Be obsessed about the desired goal
2.
Be aggressive in your pursuit of the set goal
3.
Listen to the coach. They see the big picture
4.
When you make mistakes recover quickly
5.
Pass the ball accurately. Every move counts every miss costs
6.
Put your best into every moment you never know what it will lead to
7.
Respect the referee oh and the opponents (never take anything for
granted)
8.
While the match is on stay at optimum (rest only when you have own
and start immediately to prepare for the next match)
All the above are
great and I could write more about them but let me close by focusing on my
favourite of these success tips. Create a winning atmosphere. It looks like the
atmosphere plays a significant role in winning in life. This can be created by
having the right support structure, some noise and the right mindset. In fact
the mindset is the biggest key here because those playing on home ground have
the added advantage of having a bigger cheerleading team. So the visitors have
to depend on what they are thinking.
Most battles are won
in the mind when one gives up before the final whistle blows. When the game is
going against you it is easy to give up inside and see yourself to have lost.
Losing a match does not mean you have failed; you've just had an opportunity to
learn and get better prepared.
Finally when you are
done talk to your opponents. You may learn some valuable lessons from them that
will be your competitive advantage next time. Always remember "Even you
can succeed"
