I will
stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he
will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. (Habakkuk 2:1)
There are
many people with eyes that look but not many have eyes to see. Looking and
seeing are two different things in my coaching sessions the challenge I have
with a lot of people is that they cannot see. They look at different situations
and never see the real situation as it is or better still as it should be. The
people that run the world are those that see what others fail to see. Proverbs
29:18 says where there is no vision the people perish, vision is looking and
seeing more than Joe average who looks and fails to see.
Looking is
the perception of light and is a function of the eye, seeing is perception of
what should be and is a function of the imagination. Here is the biggest
question are you looking and not seeing or are you seeing beyond what your eyes
are perceiving? The ability to see can be developed and you can get better at
seeing. The reason I can say this is because I have had to work on myself and I
can see more now than ever before. There was a time when I was just an employee
and I functioned as an employee but when I began to attend leadership
development meetings my mind was renewed and I began to see and I became a new
person.
A few steps
to develop the ability to see
1. Look in
between the lines. This means look for the detail that is not obvious
2. Ask
relevant questions (why, what, how, how long etc) when you learn to question
everything you begin to see what others cannot see?
3. How can
I do things differently and achieve better results?
4. What's
in it for me? This is the motivation question. It's not humility to say I
really don't want anything here I'm just doing it
Did you notice the scripture above states that the person was responsible for positioning himself to hear the what God was saying but when God spoke he "SAW". In other words Gods words are not necessarily heard but they are seen. When He says something you see something. If you are not positioned to to listen you will never hear what He is saying. Think about this carefully and take action as you could have been missing what He is showing you. Look again and see.
