Right Meditations

Control your thoughts control you life

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. (Proverbs 23:7)

Our text today is one that has blessed my life for years and I want to share it with you. Focus on the phrase "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..." My life is the sum total of my thoughts. If I can manage my thoughts I can manage my life. My success factor therefore is determined by my most prevalent thoughts. If I thoughts of defeat and failure then the natural result is failure, if I fill my mind with thoughts of wealth, health, success, and prosperity then the result will be success and prosperity.

Now we see why God told Joshua in our article yesterday to meditate on the book of the law day and night and not let it depart from his mouth Joshua was to set his heart and mind on the Word of God as the foundation of his success. The principle has not changed. Let me highlight another important point here. Please note the text said "in his heart" not his head. Your heart is the vital ground where we are to sow the Word of God and think thoughts that line up with the Word of God.

What I fill my heart with will influence my head but if I am careless to listen to junk then my heart will be filled with failure sickness and disease. My primary responsibility as a believer is to fill my heart with the Word of God and my life will change. Wow this is glorious I feel like shouting and running. When my heart is filled with the word of God then my life will be filled with good things. Look at this scripture below.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)

Hear is my question to you... what meditations are filling your heart? What is the focus of your heart? Whatever it is, it is seen in what is manifesting in your life. Whatever you are meditating on in your heart is evidenced by the quality of life you are living. We try and get rich and prosperous by getting more academic qualifications (and there is nothing wrong with that) but if this does not change the quality of our thinking there will be no change in the quality of our living. Many believers have been caught in a trap of trying everything else but that which God has given as the solution. Let me show you one more scripture.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. Proverbs 4:20-27 KJV

(I would have put the whole scripture but the article would be long. Read it all and you will be blessed)

This passage is really powerful. Notice life and health (the two things we are all looking for) is not in education nor even in a good job and a good six figure income... it's in the Word.

If we will fill our lives with the word and set out focus in the Word we will have good success. We will get all that life has to offer including good health, a good income, comfortable living etc. notice also the scripture gives you the responsibility to guard your heart diligently because failure to do so will result in you failing.

Let me close with a little story of my life. When I came into the church world I was very broke and poor I walked every place I went. I carried a big bible with me everywhere I went (I still do) I was taught to say "I hate poverty with a passion" I have said this many times in the past. I noticed however that this did not change my position financially. I discovered later that there was no scripture that said this it was just a phrase coined by well meaning people that were ignorant of the scripture. I discovered that there are many scripture that spoke of loving the Word, loving God, loving wisdom and prosperity. Then it dawned on me. You cannot become prosperous with a negative mindset. Hating poverty is a negative position not a position of faith.

When I began to speak the Word everything began to change. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Just hating poverty does not remove it. Probably all the people living in the slums hate poverty, they would rather be living in the nicer places but they do not have the tools to get them to move. The key is change the way you are thinking and change your life. Set your mind on the Word and you will see your life changing.
